The Blues…pick 7 of our 52 adventures in Chicago!

May is Blues Season in Chicago, the city gets things rolling this month as a warmup to the Chicago Blues Fest (June 8-10) with all sorts of free concerts and events throughout the city. On Tuesdays the Cultural Center hosts a Blues Lunch Break Series. I headed to Millennium Park with the kids to grab a quick lunch before the show started and, since it was so warm, a splash in Crown Fountain!
I also used this pick as a chance for an interesting date night. We haven’t been out to do something different like this in awhile so we headed to Kingston Mines. Since so many of the other Blues clubs are quite a bit further south and in the mess of everything going on with the NATO summit, we decided it was best to stay away from the south end of the city.
We lucked out since Kingston Mines was celebrating their 44th anniversary! We had such a great time and the talent at this club was phenomenal. We spent the night listening to Vance Kelly and Big James and the Chicago Playboys. The place was packed; we met some great people and heard some amazing music!
One of the best things about choosing a card every week is pushing me to get out to different parts of the city and explore different places and events that I either haven’t experienced or have just not taken the time to do in a long time, so glad we did!

Here are a few shots from our adventures this week…And if you want to check out all the Blues events happening leading up to the fest visit. And here’s a link to Kingston Mines definitely worth checking out.

I had to add a shot of my little guy splashing through the fountains;) His first time splashing around here, and I’m sure, not his last!

The Blues with Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith & Friends at the Cultural Center. They were great!

This is the beautiful dome in the Cultural Center. This was my first time in here so we did a quick tour through this beautiful building. I’m sure I’ll be back and will hopefully do a much better job capturing this stunning building.
