After skipping a week because of some craziness around here we finally got back to our adventure this week. Our pick was the Garfield Park Conservatory. I haven’t been here in close to 10 years!
The last time I was in here there were many Chihuly sculptures throughout the conservatory. I was pleasantly surprised to see a few left in the Aroid House, and if you’re wondering what the heck an aroid is, because I certainly had no idea, many ariod’s are popular houseplants. And if you’ve never seen an Chihuly piece I urge you to Google his work immediately, it’s stunning!
We wandered through here for about 2 hours, this place is much larger than I remember and has a number of outdoor gardens that I completely missed on my last visit. The public greenhouse alone is two acres and there are ten acres of outdoor gardens! It would be worth packing a lunch on a nice day and eating in one of these beautiful gardens.
There is also a Children’s Garden which my kids loved! There are many events held in this space throughout the year, many geared towards children, and the best part…it’s all free!
There weren’t too many flowers in bloom right now but this place is beautiful nonetheless. Not to mention it was so great to get out my much neglected macro lens!
