petersen museum, Kohn Pedersen Fox
The last Los Angeles post from my latest trip! This might be the longest it’s taken me to get through a trip’s images. So many shots to go through, so much good architecture in this city, with so much more I have yet to photograph.
I headed to the Petersen Museum on my last day in LA, the day after the workshop. It had been a super rainy morning but I lucked out with the weather clearing for a couple hours in the afternoon.
The museum has been on my list since it opened in late 2015. Such a fun abstract facade designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, which covers the original building designed by Welton Becket. Because the original design had very few windows, surprising given it was created to be the home of a department store, it was a great location for an auto museum. Lots of open space with little outside light to affect the museums content. The new, flashy facade, made of steel and a bright red also seem fitting for an auto museum.
There are lots of ways to play with this curvy exterior and the red makes for a fun pop of color. Shockingly, I only processed a couple in black & white!

There are a few more in this set, if you haven’t had enough 😉
