the bean, anish kapoor, millennium park, abstract archtiecture photography
Last week I managed to check out the bean when the park was open…yay for checking the hours this time, lol! I got there pretty close to 8am, when it opens, to get the softer light and fewer people. There were only about 5 others there at that time. So weird to see such quietness in this park. Also, they have the bean gated off so you can’t even get close to it. There are all these weeds growing through the cracks in the plaza surrounding the sculpture. Also, completely weird to see.
As much as covid sucks and I just want it to end, the opportunity to photograph this without anyone surrounding it is unheard of and a fantastic opportunity to get something different. Something that would just not be possible under normal circumstances. This place is constantly packed and I usually struggle to get anything I really like. But pretty happy with a few of these 🙂
So, here are a few interpretations…

The next two versions kinda feel like yin and yang. Perhaps, fitting given our current situation its meaning…duality the positive in the negative, etc…

Another of the city reflection shots I have a tendency to be drawn to here.

I got to the area a bit before 8am so I also made few shots of one of my favorite buildings, Aqua by Studio Gang Architects.

Two black & white versions…can’t decide which I prefer.

One final shot. Just liked the light and reflection on the neighboring buildings to Aqua.
