The Chicago Architecture Center is doing a series of evening river cruises with architecture firms so I decided to check one out. Last week was with Joachim Schuessler, principal at Goettsch Partners. Interesting to have an architect’s perspective, especially when they’ve been involved in many projects along the river.
The CAC never disappoints with these cruises. Always full of great information and we had a beautiful fall night.
I didn’t shoot a lot while on the cruise but did get a few reflection shots of River Point (designed by Pickard Chilton) and 150 Riverside (designed by Goettsch Partners, of course 😉 ).

Just across the river and a tiny bit south is another Goettsch design, the new Bank of America Tower. This is my first time photographing this and focused my attention on the fins and stepped edge at the top.

Black & white for comparison…

As I said, didn’t do a ton of shooting, but here are a couple of phone shots. Kicking myself for not having the right lens on my camera (and not enough time to switch it out) to capture the River City (Bertrand Goldberg) shot with my real camera. Guess I’ll just have to do another cruise 😉

Are you tired of the constant color vs. BW comparison? Indecision at its best. One more to end the tour…

Just love Vista’s (Studio Gang) curves. Still struggling with getting a shot I really like of this, but thinking I need to capture this from a distance and zoom in on these various curves of each section of the building. Stay tuned…
And if you haven’t done a river cruise with the CAC, what are you waiting for?!
