I’ll be documenting the St Regis Chicago for Magellan Development over the course of its completion. For now, I’ve been working on getting exterior shots in various weather conditions. We’ve had an chilly, snowy winter resulting in some unique perspectives from the lake and river…snow covered water, cracked ice, snow/sunshine mixtures. Cold to be out there shooting in, but well worth it to get some interesting shots.
One of my favorite mornings of shooting was when we had this great mix of blustery snow mixed with intermittent sun. Here are a few shots showing the progression of weather changes within about a 30 minute timeframe.
The middle shot is probably my favorite because you can still see the snow well + the sun coming through a bit.
Now for a couple of details, in color and black & white, because I can’t resist how different elements of the design are emphasized in each version.
Back for those river views and some of cracked ice.

The view looking north near Lake Shore East Park + a lookup detail.
A little pairing with both of Studio Gang’s towers.

A peek through the winter landscaping near the Shedd Aquarium.

Now for some early morning droning…
