The first workshop of 2023 is in the books! We spent 3 days exploring the unique architecture of Los Angeles. You’ve seen my shots from the long weekend. Today, let’s take a look at the amazing shots the participants got!
Scott Lawrence
Scott joined us from the Detroit area and is sharing some shots from Caltrans District 7 Headquarters, Petersen Auto Museum, and the Waffle Building.
Give him a follow on Instagram – @scottlawrencephoto.
P.S. I’ve known Scott for over 8 years (we met a the Out of Chicago Photo Conference year’s ago where we both were teaching). He’s a great headshot photographer and was kind enough to get some BTS shots, which I’ll share at the end of this post. Plus, stay tuned for a little video coming soon!

Judy Guenther
This was Judy’s first workshop with me but we met about a year ago in Chicago when she and her husband did a private photowalk with me. They’re both great fun, world travelers, and great photographers! She’s sharing some very colorful shots from the Petersen Auto Museum, Waffle Building, and the Double Ascension sculpture.

Mark Stevens
Mark joined us all the way from Australia for his second workshop with me. He’s so much fun and a really great photographer who also seems to travel the globe on a regular basis. Here are his shots from the LACMA, Petersen Auto Museum (clearly a favorite of everyone!), and The Getty Center.

Sue Rothschild
This was Sue’s first workshop with me and she traveled from Pennsylvania for her first visit to LA. She got some great shots from a favorite sculpture – Ulysses (and love her take that feels like a double exposure but it’s a reflection!), Petersen Auto Museum, and the Getty Center.

Betty Wang
This was also Betty’s first workshop with me and she joined us from the San Francisco area. She’s new to architecture photography but got some amazing shots! She’s sharing some moody takes on the Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, a building across the street from the Petersen Auto Museum that I don’t know the name of but has some great patterns, and the Waffle Building.

Libby Sutton
Libby was back for her second workshop with me. From my home state of Wisconsin, she traveled from Milwaukee. She’s sharing some shots from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, LA Courthouse, and the Ulysses sculpture.
Be sure to follow her here – @libsutton.

Bonus shots…
During the review session, each of the participants shared a shot from the Walt Disney Concert Hall (as their choice, not my prodding). One of my favorite aspects of the review session and these workshops is how differently each of us tends to see the same place so I asked them to each submit a shot from here. I thought it would be fun for you to compare and contrast the various ways to see one space. Enjoy!

That’s so fun to see, right?!
Now, for some BTS shots, big thanks, Scott!

Big thanks to this fantastic group! We really had a great time together shooting, joking around, and having lunch/dinner/drinks. Oh, and celebrating Libby’s birthday!

Glorious shots and so interesting to see what different things interested each workshop member.
