This year, I spent 2 weekends leading workshops around the city. Initially, I was going to combine both into one post but thought that might make a long post unbearably long. Plus, we had vastly different weather conditions between each workshop.

So, anyway, here’s a look at the first workshop full of cloudy/rainy days. My poor group:( But, in reality both clouds and sun make for good photo ops, just different moods and feelings. You can compare when I manage to get to completing the edits on the second workshop. It might be awhile…

Day 1

Most of our first day was spent exploring Hudson Yards and the High Line wrapping up with a stop by Little Island and the AIDS Memorial.

First, The Shed as seen through the glass curtain wall of the Hudson Yards Mall.

Then, the rain started. As you can see on the fins of 515 W 29th St. And, some ICM for fun.

More BW with the subtly curvy HL23.

After a lunch stop and reprieve from the rain we stopped by the Lantern House. More ICM. I do like how the seafoam green of the windows look on an overcast day.

New this year, One Highline. More subtle curves.

Now, 100 Eleventh Ave & its reflection in the IAC Building across the street.

And, a couple of just the IAC Building. The blues were more subtly there and just exaggerated in post. And, more proof of rain 😉

Onto Little Island! Love the organic shapes you can isolate here.

Next, Solar Carve. Can’t decide if I prefer the color or BW. Your choice!

The final stop of the day – The NYC AIDS Memorial and a bonus location with the mid-century Lenox Health Center.

Day 2

Off to Penn Station. Mostly focused on the ceiling light installation and then saw an interesting subway entrance and ceiling on our walk to the subway.

Onto Brooklyn and our first stop at the Barclay Center.

Filling the frame with patterns at 11 Hoyt.

It’s been awhile since I’ve made a new Urban Quilt photo but loved the contrasting colors, textures, and mix of old and new just before we left Brooklyn.

Wrapping up day 2 in Tribeca with the AT&T Long Lines Building, Jenga Tower, and some ghostly, ICM’s of 187 Franklin.

Day 3

We started in Grand Central but I captured nothing 🙁 Same for the Chrysler Building. Well, nothing good. Here are a couple from the New York Public Library though… Symmerty for the win when deawling with older, ornate architecture.

Now, for maybe my favorite stop of the weekend. The very colorful exhibit filing the atrium of the Guggenheim. Sort of Easter egg like but a fun change. But, first, we’ll start with some more typical BW takes.

Okay, now for the fun colors!

The final stop of day 3, the newish Gilder Center. Very organic, somewhat Flinstone-like. Great curves!

Day 4

Our final day, and, back to Brooklyn to walk the bridge to lower Manhattan.

Quite another rainy day, so more interiors only from here on out. Drama at the Fulton Center.

The final stop, the Oculus. Just sharing one image here but in both color and BW, because, again, indecisiveness.
