I’m excited we’ll be heading back to New York City for the final workshop of 2022! We’ll spend 4 days exploring this iconic city’s sites from interiors to exteriors, old & new – in Hudson Yards/The High Line, Brooklyn, Greenwich Village, Tribeca, The Upper East Side, Midtown & Downtown.
The focus will be on creating detailed and abstract interpretations of the city’s built environment.
A few days before we meet in person, we’ll come together for an online presentation with tips on composition. Once the in-person portion wraps, I’ll share a post-processing tutorial with you. You’ll have a couple of weeks to work on your images and then we’ll meet up online once again for a review session of each participant’s work.
PRESENTATION: Thursday, September 29, 8pm CST
REVIEW SESSION: Thursday, October 20, 8pm CST
These are just some of the locations we’ll see. A more detailed itinerary will be sent out a couple of weeks prior to us meeting in-person.
We’ll be walking A LOT (around 4 miles per day)! Please be prepared with good shoes, water, snacks and travel light!
Saturday we will be inside museums – THEY DO NOT ALLOW BACKPACKS (unless you’re willing to check them or they’re small and you can wear them on the front of you). So, I recommend a good crossbody bag or be willing to check your backpack at each location.
I recommend a mid-range zoom around the 24-70mm range + a 70-200mm telephoto (the telephoto will be likely be your most used lens). If you’d like to bring an additional lens, a wide angle, 12-24mm range, may be useful in a couple of locations (most notably the Guggenheim).
Tripods are not needed, and I recommend not using them. Interior locations won’t allow them and we’ll be shooting during daylight for all locations. However, you may want a monopod or platypod for Grand Central Terminal, but it is not necessary.
Our meeting and ending point each day will be the hotel – The New Yorker Hotel.
The New Yorker Hotel, 481 8th Ave, New York, NY, 10001– THIS WILL BE OUR MEETING AND ENDING DESTINATION EACH DAY.
