San Francisco

$1,800

I’m excited we’ll be heading back to San Francisco for a second year! We’ll spend 3 days exploring everything from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Embarcadero and much in between. The emphasis will be on the detailed aspects of the city’s modern and contemporary architecture along with a couple of iconic vistas and historic buildings.

A few days before we meet in person, we’ll come together for an online presentation with tips on composition. Once the in-person portion wraps, I’ll share a post-processing tutorial with you. You’ll have a couple of weeks to work on your images and then we’ll meet up online once again for a review session of each participant’s work.

PRESENTATION: Monday, August 14, 8pm CST

REVIEW SESSION: Thursday, August 31, 8pm CST

Weekend Highlights

These are just some of the locations we’ll see. A more detailed itinerary will be sent out a couple of weeks prior to us meeting in-person.

Why Attend?

  • Learn to see architecture with clear, actionable tips that you can apply during the workshop, and come home with portfolio-worthy images.
  • Get individualized attention in this small group format; workshop is limited to 10 participants.
  • Learn to shoot without complicated settings or techniques so you can improve your images in a single weekend, even if you’ve never shot architecture before.
  • Learn post-processing techniques for architecture so you can save time in front of the computer.
  • Improve your entire creative process from shooting to post-processing and get your images noticed!
  • Create amazing images with on-location guidance and feedback and win competitions!
  • Learn in the best conditions without having to worry about the logistics of a big city.
  • Get inspired by world-class architecture so you can take your images to the next level.
  • Connect with like-minded people and build lasting friendships.

What You'll See ...

Gear

We’ll be walking quite a bit (about 4 miles per day)! Please be prepared with good shoes, water, snacks, and travel light!

I recommend a mid-range zoom around the 24-70mm range + a 70-200mm telephoto (the telephoto will likely be your most used lens). If you’d like to bring another lens, a wide angle (12-24mm range) could be fun in a couple of locations.

Saturday we’ll be inside museums – THEY DO NOT ALLOW BACKPACKS (unless you’re willing to check them or they’re small and you can wear them on the front of you). So, I recommend a good crossbody bag or be willing to check your backpack at each location.

Tripods are not necessary, and I’d advise against bringing one.
